At ACH our search for the improvement of our products and production processes goes beyond our premises and mastery in cutting/butchering.
We are committed to our region, and because of that we implement the latest technological advances in our processes and facilities: advances that harmonise the production of products with a discernible quality with the care for the environment. That is how the Nutrilip project was born, and its aim is to reduce the impact on the environment through the improvement of the production efficiency
What is Nutrilip?
It is a Project certified by the “European Quality Assurance” scheme that shows our firm commitment to respond to the demand of our clients and of a society that is increasingly aware of the sustainability and protection of our planet.
Meat quality is characterised by different traits: its technological, nutritional and sensory/organoleptic quality. The fat content (especially the intramuscular fat) increases the nutritional and sensory quality, and this is basic for the manufacturing of our cured products and fresh Duroc pork.
At ACH, as well as in the rest of the pig industry, we depend on the processes being sustainable and efficient for our viability, and the best facet for the improvement of the production efficiency it the control of feeding.
The nitrogen components, in the form of nitrous oxide and nitrates, are important components of the greenhouse effect gases, and the main source of these components is the protein in the diets supplied to the animals.
Some studies have shown that the reduction in the protein content in the diet, together with the rise in the energy/protein ratio, have an effect not only on the production efficiency, but also on the deposition in the tissues, and among that, on the fat content.
“Nutrilip” is based on the research and development of new feeding strategies, with a certain protein and essential amino acids (such as lysine) content. In this way we obtain a well-defined end product, with a superior organoleptic quality, and we reduce our environmental footprint.
The goals of Nutrilip
To research and develop a new feed formulation for our Duroc fattening pigs with a feed with a certain protein content, modifying the content in the essential amino acid lysine, with the aim of increasing the intramuscular fat content.
To establish a new feeding protocol for the fattening pigs that allows to increase their production efficiency and obtain an added value of the end product through a greater marbling in the meat.
The drop in the protein content in the diets may involve, in turn, a reduction in the environmental impact, and therefore an increase in the general sustainability of the production system.
